Is adding a white background the same as removing a white background?

No. This page replaces the original scene with solid white. To make an existing white backdrop transparent, use the white background remover instead.

What if an edge or detail is missing?

Compare with the original and try a sharper photo with more contrast around the subject. The tool cannot restore parts cropped out of the source image.
