Start with the right photo
Start with the original PNG rather than a screenshot. The photo model identifies a subject; it does not simply erase one colour. Already-transparent PNGs do not need another removal pass, which could alter their edges.
File formats
Remove the background from a PNG image, even if it currently has a solid backdrop. Choose your file, create a cutout, and save it with transparency.

FROM SOURCE TO CUTOUT
Start with the original PNG rather than a screenshot. The photo model identifies a subject; it does not simply erase one colour. Already-transparent PNGs do not need another removal pass, which could alter their edges.
Check the exported PNG on a coloured background. A PNG can contain solid pixels as well as transparency, so a white rectangle may still be part of the original image. Inspect thin stems, gaps and fine edges before saving.
Review your cutout in the editor. Choose transparent or a solid background, then export PNG or JPG for your next use.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
PNG supports transparency but does not guarantee it. A PNG can have an opaque white or coloured backdrop. Remove that backdrop, choose the transparent finish, and export as PNG. A checkerboard baked into a screenshot is also image content, not real transparency.
Compare with the original and try a sharper photo with more contrast around the subject. The tool cannot restore parts cropped out of the source image.
