FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A little
clarity.

Everything you need before your first cutout.

Getting started

How do I remove a background?

Open the homepage, choose Upload image, and select your photo. EraseBG removes the background in your browser and opens the result in the editor. Choose a background style and download the finished image.

Which image formats can I upload?

You can upload JPG, PNG, and WebP images. Each file must be 10 MB or smaller. Convert other file types to one of these formats before uploading.

Can I use EraseBG on my phone?

Yes. Open the site in your phone’s browser and use Upload image to select a photo. The mobile editor includes background, comparison, undo, and download controls.

Do I need to create an account?

The upload and editor flow does not require an account. You can choose a photo directly from the homepage.

Processing & privacy

Where do my uploaded images go?

Background removal runs locally in your browser rather than uploading the photo to a processing server. Your first use downloads the model needed to process the image.

Why is my first image taking longer?

The first run needs to download and prepare the background-removal model. Processing time also depends on the photo and your device. Keep the page open and allow the initial setup to finish.

Do I need an internet connection?

An internet connection is needed to load the website and download the model on first use. Avoid relying on offline access, since browser caching and model availability can vary.

What should I do if processing fails?

Check your connection, especially on the first run, and try again. Make sure the image is JPG, PNG, or WebP and no larger than 10 MB. If the issue continues, reload the page and try a smaller image.

Editing & image quality

What can I create with my cutout?

Keep a transparent background, choose a solid colour, or upload your own backdrop. You can use the finished composition for product images, portraits, design assets, presentations, and social posts.

What does the checkerboard background mean?

The checkerboard shows transparent areas in the editor. To preserve those areas in the downloaded file, choose Transparent and export as PNG.

Can I change the background after removal?

Yes. Use the background options in the editor to select transparency, a colour, or your own image. You can try different settings before downloading.

Can I undo an edit?

Yes. The editor provides undo and redo controls for your changes. Use them to return to an earlier look or restore a change you undid.

Why are some edges or fine details missing?

Background removal can struggle with blurred edges, hair, fur, transparent materials, and subjects that blend into their surroundings. Try a sharper, better-lit original and compare the result before downloading.

Will every photo give the same quality of result?

No. Results vary with the original photo. A clearly visible subject with sharp edges is easier to separate than a blurry subject or a complex scene.

Downloading & next steps

Should I download PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG for a transparent cutout. PNG or JPG can be used for a finished composition with a solid colour or image background. JPG cannot preserve transparency.

Why did my transparent image download with a white background?

If you export a transparent canvas as JPG, EraseBG uses white for the background. Choose Transparent in the editor and download as PNG to keep transparency.

What if the download does not start?

Try the download again and check whether your browser has blocked it or saved it to its usual downloads location. Keep the editor open until the file is prepared.

Where can I find the downloaded image?

The file is saved through your browser. Check its downloads list or the download location configured on your device.

Where can I see examples or a full walkthrough?

Visit the Gallery to compare original photos with their cutouts, or open How it works for the complete upload, editing, and download guide.
